Discovery is automatic. Ownership is a decision. An SSID or manufacturer does not prove a network belongs to your company. You select the project’s target SSIDs; ByteSurvey keeps the surrounding RF context available for review.
Captured values, advertised information and derived views are kept distinct. Optional fields appear when their source supplies them.
Received signal strength (RSSI, dBm), receive frequency (MHz), channel, band and frame timestamp. Point summaries retain sample counts and capture timing. Noise and SNR require valid receiver-provided noise.
SSID, BSSID, vendor lookup, advertised Wi-Fi generation, operating channel width and security details. Supported broadcast elements add protected-management-frame, roaming-capability, beacon/DTIM and country information. Capability flags describe advertisements, not a completed performance test.
Channel utilisation (%) and associated-station count from the AP’s BSS Load element, when present. Missing values remain unavailable. These values are AP-reported and do not represent independent spectrum or client traffic analysis.
Calibrated floor-plan coordinates, point and survey IDs, timestamps, selected SSIDs, retained observations and acquisition metadata. Review coverage heatmaps, observed-radio density, potential co-channel contention and estimated AP locations. Compare visits and export PDF reports or CSV data. Interpolated coverage and AP positions are estimates.

The software workflow is running in an internal pilot. The next step is repeatable field validation, followed by a qualified enclosure and a broader feature set.
The enclosure is an original visual concept, not production CAD. Dimensions, cooling, antenna layout and ports are indicative. No battery-life, ingress-rating, compliance or release-date claim is made.
Yes. The survey radio discovers nearby Wi-Fi radios over the air during capture. A radio/BSSID is not necessarily a separate physical AP. Locations drawn on the plan are estimates from observations, not an imported inventory or a guaranteed physical position.
You select the company SSIDs for a project. That selection scopes the survey and its views; neighbouring observations are still retained. Matching an SSID helps organise the survey, but it is not proof of ownership and cannot by itself identify a rogue AP.
The kit records survey observations locally, and the iPad connects to the kit for the field workflow. Cloud sync needs a connection later. Prepare the project and floor plan on the kit before working offline.
It displays the floor plan and controls the survey. RF observations come from the Alfa adapter on the Raspberry Pi. The current development device is the Lightning iPad mini 5 (A2133); wider device support has not yet been qualified.
The Alfa AWUS036AXML supports 2.4, 5 and 6 GHz. ByteSurvey’s current capture profile uses 2.4 and 5 GHz. 6 GHz surveying awaits driver, country-profile and end-to-end RF validation with a real 6 GHz access point. Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) can also operate on 2.4 and 5 GHz; Wi-Fi 6 support does not by itself mean 6 GHz capture is enabled.
ByteSurvey focuses on Wi-Fi survey evidence: signal coverage, radio observations and AP-advertised information. Active throughput, latency, jitter, packet-loss and roaming tests are outside the current release. Dedicated non-Wi-Fi spectrum analysis requires additional hardware and is not included.
The current platform runs on a self-managed VPS. The product is in internal development, with no public sales, final price or announced shipping date. The pilot brief explains the current scope and qualification steps.
